For children aged 2 years and older, the dose is based on body weight and is usually 12 mg per kilogram of body weight once a day for 5 days.
- Administration: You can take most forms of azithromycin with or without food. For the extended-release liquid form (Zmax), take it on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. If you’re using the oral suspension single-dose packet, mix it with water and drink it immediately. Make sure to use the entire dose.
- Warnings:
- Do not use azithromycin if you’ve had jaundice or liver problems due to this medication.
- Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, myasthenia gravis, heart rhythm disorder, low potassium levels, or long QT syndrome.
- Azithromycin is generally safe during pregnancy but consult your doctor if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.
